HBO comes through for me again. True Blood is at the end of its first season, so I’m a little late in the game but I’m willing to catch up. This show pisses on the whole Twilight story (of vampires being nice – although I would have to give it to Stephanie Meyer for coming up with something novel for the vampire genre).
I have always loved Anna Paquin (The Squid and the Whale, Almost Famous, the X-Men trilogy) – she shines in this one. As usual, it has all the necessary elements to make for great a HBO showing – actually, it has the main element – sex. It has the darkness of 6 Feet Under and for some unfathomable reason, the soundtrack from Wild Things. Great opening sequence.
I’m a fan of vampire shows – I like the genre – so things are look pretty up till the next season of Weeds, Entourage and Big Love hit me. This show is a dirty vampire series – doesn’t hold punches – when Bill opens a vein for Sookie to drink from – he rips his wrist right open and spits his skin out. Cool.
So, if you’re looking for a good show to fill the time, True Blood will do nicely.
