Forces of the Universe.

I am a believer.

I really, truly, believe that by being open and accepting whatever the universe throws my way, will I be prepared to accept its gifts. And I’m not trying to sound all tutti-fruitty and discuss cosmic forces, star signs or shit like that, just advocating belief. Being a terribly negative person, having faith in anything/anyone is not an easy thing to surrender.

The weekend, oh the weekend…

I had a brill start to the weekend, met up with Kim on Friday night at Raw Kitchen Bar – my first time there and definitely not my last! It is completely unpretentious and feels like someone’s house party. It’s a chill out, chat up kinda place – so no heavy partying although it has been a while since I was that hammered! I am extremely proud of myself for doing something new – especially since the Butter shutdown for the big move!

Needless to say, I was still hungover for drinks on Saturday (and for all you enquiring minds, I had a nice time) so by the the time Sunday rolled around, I was done with the weekend!

Dolce had a treat – by means of a dried ham bone. The pictures were taken by my 5 megapixel camera phone. Doesn’t look too shabby, I think (the pictures, that is, not the ham bone). And yes, she needs her nails cut but I had some groomer-drama on Sunday.

cold-chisel

Caught this box in front of my office on Friday. That’s where all the Chisel albums went.

DEX/Q

dexter

This is the cover of the Dexter Season 3 box set (don’t quote me on this). I am not a Dexter fan, not because of dislike but because of lack of opportunity/interest to watch it – plus is it too late in the game? I have a fetish for serial killer stories (have had it for almost 2 decades now) so I might jump on the Dexter bandwagon soon.

Regardless, love this cover – the play on American Idol, the GQ styling. Smart.

To fengshui or not to fengshui?

Ever so occasionally, I will experience a fengshui attack and rearrange everything on my desk. This happened soon after I realised I have the posture of an 80 year old woman (see: this post) and decided it was because I was practically kissing my monitor. Now, the working flaw of a designer tends to be the uncontrollable desire to have everything right in front of him/her. This means, at any given time, you would have paper, notes, sketches on top of your keyboard and mouse and your face pressed up against the monitor. (Sidenote: Larger/dual monitors alleviate this).

However, since the recent fengshui tactic, more bad luck has befallen me!

  1. I accidentally deleted my favourite playlist for iTunes (it’s called “undo” assholes, look into it!)
  2. I dropped my bottle of water (always uncovered) and in trying to retrieve it, knocked over the mirror on my desk and its stand broke
  3. I got into work on Monday morning and my computer would not start. Its currently held hostage by Apple (2 strikes!) due to motherboard failure. I am currently using the spare, intern’s computer (OS X Version 10.3.9 – god help me)

I know that I should consider moving everything back to they way it used to be but something tells me this small act of moving the things in my workspace has created an imperceptible shift of energy in my life. Something is telling me that change, it is a-comin’ and I should not fight it. I am a person of creature comforts and change completely throws me off my game.

But!

I have decided (not only to not use more exclamations in this post) but to also accept whatever the universe throws my way. Computer melt-down, maybe I’ll get an upgrade. Ridiculously inappropriate men, maybe I’m chalking up credit. I’m actually pretty interested to see how it’ll all turn out in the end.

So, here’s the re-fengshuied desk, sans comments and with.

This Is Not A Print!

I managed to rush down to 8Q, at the Singapore Art Museum before dance class (don’t I sound nice and active?) to catch the exhibition, “This Is Not A Print”. I got there at 6:30, half an hour before it closes so the place was completely empty which was perfect for me to ooh and aah to myself. It’s a great exhibit and I encourage everyone to have a look at it – make it an additional thing to see before your shopping/lunch trip at Raffles City.

I took a couple of shots (like a loser) of the pieces that froze me for more than a minute at least (I have a short attention span).

hockneyDavid Hockney \\ An Image of Gregory (absolutely gorgeous, split frame artwork)

motherwellRobert Motherwell \\ Bastos (I absolutely adore paint lashings and this one had a huge pack pasted over it)

jasper Jasper Johns \\ Colour Numeral Series (And finally, the piece that knocked me over. Numerals in multiples, wow)

This Is Not A Print! runs till 26 July 2009.
