(un)happy endings

My cynical heart cannot take 2 happy ending movies in one weekend.

Slumdog Millionaire

Big whoop, Oscar buzz, “feel good movie of the year”. To me, the happy ending and god-help-me dancing credit scene completely negated the serious topics of the movie and the vivid representation of slum living in India. The best part of the movie was the introduction scene and MUSIC. The music was brilliant. Other than that, I was hoping someone would die or lose a foot or something… Denied.

He’s Just Not That Into You

Ok, this seemed like a good idea at the time. Dinner with the girls and a chick flick after. It started out well enough and some parts did resonate with things girls/guys do but overall, Ginnifer Goodwin (love her in Big Love) played a character that was over the top Loser. I’ve known some loser girls in my life and none of them have chalked up the loser credits like she has. Jennifer Connolly looked beautiful and of course, Kevin Connolly (oh, my sweetheart) looked gorgeous but played a rather character-ambivalent role – a bit of a dick initially, to a cuddle monkey… just kinda weird role. The movie was entertaining enough for a Sunday night.

My next movie is going to be The Reader. Nazis, Germans and Jews – I do not foresee a happy ending there. Can’t wait.
